⚠️ Emergency Alert 02-22-2026: West Brookfield Town Offices will be closed Monday, February 23rd due to the impending winter storm. Stay safe.

A Message from the West Brookfield Police and Fire Departments

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Sunday afternoon through early Tuesday morning. Forecasts are calling for wet, heavy snow beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing into Monday, along with gusty winds. Heavy, moisture-laden snow can weigh down trees and power lines, increasing the risk of scattered power outages. If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1, for non-emergency calls, dial 508-867-1170 for public safety dispatch.

Now is the time to prepare:

• Charge cell phones, portable chargers, and medical devices.

• Have flashlights and extra batteries ready — avoid using candles.

• Stock up on water, medications, and easy-to-prepare food.

• If you use a generator, operate it outdoors only and away from windows and doors.

• Keep vehicles fueled and an emergency kit inside if travel becomes necessary.

Wet snow is also physically demanding to shovel. Pace yourself, take breaks, and use proper lifting techniques. If possible, check on elderly neighbors and vulnerable residents — especially those who may rely on electricity for medical equipment or heat. A quick phone call or visit can make a significant difference.

If you have a fire hydrant adjacent to your property and are physically able to do so, please consider clearing snow at least three feet around it. Keeping hydrants accessible allows first responders to quickly access water in the event of a fire.

Please plan ahead, limit unnecessary travel during the height of the storm, and continue to monitor updates as conditions develop. Stay safe and look out for one another.
